Guide to Using Vintage Lighting

Over the years Retrouvius has sourced lighting from a huge variety of buildings; factories, large commercial spaces, French farms, Italian apartamento, chapels.

Our restored historic shades complement buildings of every period and style, Edwardian, Mid Century, industrial. Fittings from well known companies such as Holophane, Thorlux and Gecoray, sit alongside French frilly glass plates and Czech Modernism in our shop.

In the early Twentieth Century, when electrification of homes was becoming widespread, domestic lighting was expensive. Designs were celebrated with extremely ornate fittings and made of top quality materials with intricate craftsmanship.

Retrouvius supplies lighting ready to install, having been PAT tested and professionally tested. Flex comes in a variety of colours, wired to BC standard at two metre lengths.

Our current stock includes a batch of lamps that celebrate the geological breadth and variety of stone found in the UK – from the richly coloured Polyphant of Cornwall, Dorset’s Purbeck stone and alabasters, Lincolnshire Ancasters to Derbyshire limestones.

Made from a stonemason’s off-cuts of surplus stock.
