HEAVEN ON EARTH - Auction for Kelmscott Manor

A fund raiser for William Morris's Kelmscott Manor to help secure the long term future of the house and conserve and cherish this extraordinarily atmospheric house and its setting.

Childhood visits had a huge influence on Maria and were a formative experience - William Morris described Kelmscott as looking as though it "had grown up out of the soil", so naturally did it seem to emerge form its setting.

Derbyshire Fossil Limestone (Hopton Wood)

Retrouvius has just salvaged a significant quantity of this handsome limestone from the exterior of an early 1950's building in central London.
This indigenous, fossil-rich stone was originally quarried from the same Derbyshire location as our haul salvaged from Sir Frederick Gibberd's iconic Heathrow Airport building in 2010.

Used in significant builds, historical and modern, including Chatworth House and The Royal Festival Hall; the stone conjures images of the Festival of Britain and holds an endearing place in our memories. It epitomises British architecture.

Giving a multitude of uses, Retrouvius has designed it into our projects as flooring, wall cladding, splash backs and surrounds. Rich in crinoid fossils and sea creatures, this iconic stone gives varying warm tones making it ideal for interiors re-use.

Having previously been used to clad an exterior facade this batch is particularly thick. In its original salvaged condition the stone has a weathered surface and polishes up to reveal its hosts of petrified creatures.
We are delighted to have saved it and to have it back in stock and available for re-use.

In salvaged condition £145+vat per sq metre
Polished £295+vat per sq metre
