Sometimes Retrouvius are offered a unique batch of material and we have to think laterally about its reuse.

Such was the case with four pallets of redundant Victorian art folios from a famous London museum, once used to store collections of drawings and prints.

Beautifully made, we realised that the best re-use for them was to open them out to maximise surface area and to expose their fine patinated red leather spines and red buckram over board covering.

The rich colour gives a gentleman’s club character. Our design team have used them in their original condition in home offices and our warehouse has 100+ for sale and re-use.

Try using the folios as panelling to cupboard door fronts, trimming to size if required.

Think of future re-use potential: we prefer using tacks and use glue sparingly.
