Retrouvius Design on Site

This five storey London home requires a distinct and radically approach… here our design team share their progress… and process from onsite.

With few original features remaining design decisions are following a playful, topographic methodology with tactile salvage elements bringing narrative and focus to the new spaces.

Having previously been multiple separate flats, and only re-joined in recent years, the building needs complete spatial overhaul. The new entrance was once a bedsit with a mezzanine, kitchen and bathroom all crammed into one.

Arches and columns. Architectural salvage is being introduced where appropriate: cylindrical columns will bring verticality to the new living room.

Re-use from onsite. Victorian tiles that had to make way on the ground floor await repurposing… watch this space!

Timber floor boards fromt he top floors are being lifted, assessed and restored for reuse in the new kitchen.

Choices. Salvaged parquet will be used across the entire ground floor – sourced from different municiple buildings and school sport halls.

Connection to shared gardens and trees. Green suede hides from Retrouvius stock will feature in cabinetry in the kitchen which is moving up a level.
