1950s ‘Antheor’ Set by Mathieu Mategot #1607

A rare set of four 'Antheor' chairs and matching table, c.1950s, by Hungarian-French designer Mathieu Mategot (1910-2001).

Hungarian-born Mategot studied fine art in Budapest from 1925 to 1929. He settled in France in 1931, and established his furniture workshop after the Second World War, becoming one of the most famous French designers of the 1950s.

Expertly restored and coated in a joyous yellow, this is an important piece of midcentury French design.
