Roddy Clarke looks at how preserving pieces, which have been passed down through generations and investing in timeless items encourages a drive away from this increase in consumerism. Restoration is a way of ensuring items can last giving us a reason not to buy, and therefore minimising our footprint on the planet.

Re-use in action: leather

Retrouvius were contacted last week by a commercial upholstery company who were downsizing storage because of the "casual dining crisis" - (recent closures of several high profiles chain restaurants). 
A small mountain of surplus leather leftover from four decades of restaurant and pub fit outs was available for Retrouvius to salvage.
