Garden Flat, Little Venice
Homage to the Housewife
Completed October 2002
A thoroughly enjoyable project carried out
in conjunction with Spoon42 Architecture.
A large garden flat in Little Venice was
in need of a revamp but our client had no desire for modern
minimalism. Her passion is for all things 50s from frocks
to kitsch plastic cups. She had fallen in love with an original
English Rose kitchen shed spotted at our warehouse.
Its credentials were good, its previous home being Rolls Royces
headquarters in Derbyshire.
Whilst structural opening up works were ongoing
the need for an appropriate floor became more acute. The strictest
of briefs: "it must look like its been here forever".
Fortuitously large-scale building works were on going at nearby
St Marys hospital, Paddington. We were offered hundreds
of square metres of mahogany parquet flooring. Fantastic value
but bitumen backed therefore needing careful laying to maintain
most of the original patina. A 1950s Hoover floor polisher
appropriately buffs them up a treat!
