Retrouvius is an architectural salvage
and design business, established in 1993. Partners Adam
Hills and Maria Speake studied architecture before starting
the business in Glasgow. We moved to London in 1997.
Our motto is "bridging the gap between destruction
and construction".
We have an idiosyncratic warehouse
in Londons Kensal Green, a home for our ever changing
stock of materials and design pieces. Through huge teak
doors the ground floor reveals our raw materials, amid
the architectural antiques are palletised stacks of
stone and timber. Upstairs in contrast is a more gallery
type space where prototypes and finer pieces can be
seen.
Through retrouvius we explore the life
cycle of buildings, this you can see throughout our
website; our stock pages show our broad and eclectic
interests which extends well beyond the usual market
for period fittings, in our design work you will see
how some of these elements have been re-used not always
obviously, our events pages reveal our ongoing process
of collaborations with artists and designers looking
at new ways to interpret salvage.
