#3161 Fossil Limestone ex Heathrow
Quarried from Hopton Wood near Matlock, Derbyshire, this beautiful limestone is full of crinoid fossils. The soft grey colours are excellent neutral tones for decorating. The quarry is now nearly exhausted so this is a rare opportunity to purchase this indigenous stone with an interesting provenance.
It has been the concourse floor to Heathrow''s first terminal since 1955.

Opened in 1955, The Europa Building (as Terminal 2 was then called) was actually the first permanent terminal building at London Airport (Heathrow). The architect was Sir Frederick Ernest Gibberd – a talented designer whose diverse work include London Central Mosque, Inter-Continental Hotel at Hyde Park Corner, The Roman Catholic Cathedral in Liverpool, and the masterplan of Harlow New Town.
